Market timing with volatility
By Lewis A. Glenn, Ph.D“I’m having a very good crash,” boasted George Soros after he earned $1.1 billion in 2008 and ranked fourth on a recently published list of 25 top-performing hedge-fund managers. Most investors, however, haven’t been as fortunate as Soros and wish they had simply sidestepped the market downturn that began 18 months ago.
Investors are facing massive losses because they bought stock without knowing when to sell. Buying stock and holding it for long periods isn’t a strategy, because everyone has a different time horizon — six months, five years, 30 years, etc.
