Cindy Bergey’s sister saw the famed investment club “Beardstown Ladies” on television in the mid-1990s, was intrigued, and started investing according to its principles. Inspired by her sister’s investing success, in 1996 Cindy Bergey bought The Beardstown Ladies’ Common- Sense Investment Guide and started learning about Value Line and fundamental analysis.

She made money, but is refreshingly candid about the reason.

“It was a bull market — you could do anything and be successful,” Bergey says of her early buy-and-hold strategy.
